Traffic authorities launch investigation into Tesla Autopilot crash...760,000 units only
The U.S. government has launched an official investigation into Tesla's partial self-driving system "autopilot," which collided with emergency vehicles parked on the road several times.
The survey targets 765,000 vehicles, including most of the vehicles sold in the United States after Tesla began selling the 2014 model. Seventeen people were injured and one was killed in the crash, which was identified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The vehicles subject to the survey include all existing models such as models X, Y, S, and 3 from 2014 to 2021.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which has investigated the Tesla crash, had recommended that Tesla and the National Security Agency limit Tesla vehicle operations to areas where they could operate safely.
Tesla drivers are frequently found to have misused the autopilot system. He was driving under the influence of alcohol or even riding on the California highway in the back seat.
Prior to this investigation, the Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been investigating 31 crashes related to the partial automatic driver assistance system since June 2016. The system can keep the vehicle in the center of the lane and secure a safe distance from the car in front of it. Of the crashes here, 25 were involved in Tesla Autopilot, with 10 reported deaths.
Self-driving manufacturers such as Tesla have warned that drivers should have been prepared to intervene in driving at any time
The collision with an emergency vehicle mentioned by the National Security Agency was in January 2018 in Culver City, near Los Angeles, when an autopilot-enabled Tesla collided with a fire truck partially parked in the driving lane with flashing lights on. At that time, firefighters were dispatched after receiving a report of the crash and were handling the accident.
Depending on the results of the investigation, recall or other enforcement activities of the Korea Safety and Security Agency may come out.
In June, the agency ordered all car manufacturers to report all crashes of vehicles using full or partial autonomous driving systems.
Tesla's stock price fell nearly 2% before the start of the regular market on the news of the opening of the survey.
