In the women's bathroom at Busan Station, 'Don't ask me assault' is in their 50s...a sentence of 20 years in prison

Prosecutors have demanded a 20-year prison term for a man in his 50s accused of indiscriminately assaulting a woman who had never met at Busan Station.

On the 16th, the Busan District Court's Criminal Division 5 (Chief Judge Jang Ki-seok) held a final hearing on A in his 50s who was charged with attempted murder.

According to the prosecution, A is accused of assaulting a woman B, whom he did not know, at 3:45 p.m. on October 29 last year in the women's bathroom on the first floor of Busan Station, causing serious injuries such as traumatic cerebral hemorrhage.

At that time, when B protested that a man had entered the women's bathroom, he grabbed B's hair with his hand and hit it on the floor several times.

On this day, the prosecution requested a 20-year prison sentence for A, as well as attachment of location tracking electronic devices and probation orders for 20 years.

The prosecution explained the reason for the request, saying, "The crime itself, which took place in a space used by multiple people, adds to the anxiety of ordinary citizens," adding, "Strict punishment is necessary considering the degree of social harm and criminal history."

B's younger brother, who appeared in court as a witness for the prosecution, said, "B had lost his memory for a while and went back to 30 years ago," adding, "Now I remember, but when I remember the incident, I got angry and confused, and I never received an apology from A."

A's lawyer said, "I admit all the accusations, but there is no intention of murder," and added, "Please take into account that A, who had been suffering from mental illness for many years, accidentally committed it while suffering from auditory hallucinations because he did not take medicine."

The case was sent on the charge of serious injury, but the prosecution conducted a complementary investigation such as eyewitness investigation and forensic expert advice, and changed it to an attempted murder charge after finding out that A repeatedly exercised strong violence in the head and upper body, which could be fatal, and that he committed the crime even though he recognized the possibility of the victim's death.
