The 19th Design Korea opened on October 6 and led the design innovation: Carbon Zero

Design Korea will be held for five days from October 6 to 10. Design Korea is Korea's representative design comprehensive fair organized by the Korea Design Promotion Agency (Director Yoon Sang-heum), which first began in 2003 and celebrated its 19th anniversary this year.

This year's theme is 'Design - driven innovation: Carbon zero'. Climate change and environmental issues have accelerated, and carbon emissions have become an urgent issue around the world. In response, they ask questions about what role design and designer should play and what direction they should take in line with the carbon neutrality strategy that is promoted in various ways at the government, business, and citizens level.

At the Design Korea Theme Hall, the major theme "Carbon Zero, from EV to plastic zero" will be displayed by dividing it into a total of six sub-tasks. [Design Matters Lab] design researchers, including Kim Sang-kyu, a professor of design at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Dr. Kim Jung-hye, a doctor of architecture and urban space history theory, and Lee Jae-hee, an editor of Design Flux 2.0, will curate themselves.

On October 6, the opening ceremony will be held on the day of the opening event, the selection of GD products in 2021, and the awards ceremony. The selection of excellent design (GD) products is a system that grants GD (Good Design) symbols, a government-certified symbol, to products with excellent designs after fair screening, and has been in effect every year since 1985 under the Industrial Design Promotion Act. The Korea Design Grand Prize is a system that recognizes and rewards companies, organizations, and local governments that have contributed to the development of the Korean design industry or have contributed to strengthening national competitiveness through design management.

During the five-day period when Design Korea is held, offline exhibitions with various configurations will be operated based on various topics at the Yangjae aT Center. The exhibition hall consists of a design business hall, an excellent design company hall, and an excellent design (GD) product selection hall, and this year, you can meet innovative works by young designers by exhibiting design startups, Korean design exhibitions, and portfolios of university graduates and unemployed designers. In addition to the exhibition, various programs such as conferences and seminars will be operated to watch online and offline.

Design Korea 2021, which will be held as an online and offline hybrid, can participate offline at Yangjae aT Center from October 6 to 10, and reservations can also be made through Naver's reservation service.

Those who cannot find offline exhibitions due to the influence of COVID-19 can meet Design Korea through online exhibitions operated until December 31 on the Design Korea online platform.
