At the production briefing held on the 28th, director Kim Han-min said about the work, which dealt with the Hansan Battle following "Myeongnyang," "I made it with the same sincerity and trust as General Lee Soon-shin." "I'm thrilled about the release," he said. Director Kim's right side is actor Park Hae-il, who plays Lee Soon-shin. Provided by Lotte Entertainment
Director Kim Han-min, who directed "Hanshan" following "Myeongnyang," said at a production briefing held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University Entrance in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul on the 28th, "I thought it was right to draw Admiral Yi Sun-shin in a movie."
General Lee Soon-shin's series, directed by Kim, has a total of three films: "Ryeongnyang," "Hansan: The Appearance of a Dragon," and "Noryang: Sea of Death." "Noryang" has already finished filming and is adjusting its release date at the end of this year and early next year. According to the period, the Hansan Battle (1592), the Myeongnyang Battle (1597), and the Battle of Noryang (1598), but Myeongnyang was the first to be released. Director Kim explained, "I wanted to do a heart-warming reversal of 'Myeongnyang' first."
General Lee Soon-shin was played by Choi Min-sik in "Myeongnyang," and Park Hae-il took over the baton in "Hansan." In "Noryang," actor Kim Yoon-seok plays Admiral Yi Sun-shin. Park Hae-il, who attended the briefing session, said, "I was very embarrassed and burdened to ask, 'What do you believe in me?' after being offered a great role that any Korean knows." Choi Min-sik looked sideways at me and smiled and said, "Try hard," laughing.
Choi Min-sik of "Myeongnyang" focused on showing a brave general. Park Hae-il of "Hansan" focused on highlighting Jijang's dense and wise strategy of fighting. Park Hae-il said, "I tried to maintain tension in the battle scene while showing my scholarly and upright character."
Head coach Kim stressed that each scholar made different opinions on the original form and tried to realize the controversial turtle ship. "I had a lot of worries because it was a turtle ship with so much excitement, such as the third floor or the second floor," he said. "The scene of the naval battle in the movie is more than 50 minutes, and I tried to show the turtle ship in the most convincing way." In the title "The Appearance of a Dragon," "Dragon" is an expression that encompasses Admiral Yi Sun-shin and the turtle ship.
In the movie, actor Byun Yo-han played the role of Japanese general Wakizaka Yasuharu in Japanese. Byun Yo-han said, "I thought there would be a limit to acting a foreign language, but I thought it would not be hotter than me emotionally for someone from other countries to act," adding, "I practiced Japanese by letting my Japanese teacher sleep at my house."
Director Kim summarized the film in a word called "pride."
"I hope that Koreans will feel encouraged and solidarity after watching this movie. Then, I hope you can take an emotion that is integrated into one word, pride. It's a movie that exists for one word, 'pride.'"
