[서화목] Huawei is shaking in the Chinese smartphone market
Huawei, which has been the target of U.S. sanctions, is also shaking in the Chinese smartphone market, which is its home turf.
According to a market research company called Cannalis on the 31st, Huawei's shipments of Chinese smartphones in the third quarter were 34.2 million units, down 18% from the same period last year.
It is the first time in six years that Huawei's quarterly Chinese smartphone shipments have fallen compared to the same period last year.
Huawei's market share also fell slightly amid the overall contraction of the Chinese smartphone market in the wake of Corona 19.
Smartphone shipments to Chinese markets in the third quarter were 83 million units, down from 97.7 million units in the same period last year.
Huawei's market share dropped 1.3 percentage points from 42.5 percent in the third quarter of last year to 41.2 percent in the third quarter of this year.
While most companies struggled in the Chinese smartphone market, Xiaomi, the fourth-largest player in the industry, followed by Huawei, Vivo, and Oppo, stood out.
In the third quarter, Xiaomi's smartphone shipments reached 10.5 million units, up 19 percent from the same period last year.
Xiaomi was the only Chinese Smartphone manufacturer that saw its smartphone shipments increase compared to the same period last year.
Its market share also rose from 9 percent in the third quarter of last year to 12.6 percent in the third quarter of this year.
Due to the U.S. government's tightening sanctions that began in May last year, Huawei is hindering the production of almost all products, from telecommunication equipment such as mobile communication base stations to consumer electronics such as smartphones.
Huawei unveiled its new strategic smartphone, the Mate 40 series, on the 22nd, but it has not been able to supply its products as much as market demand due to supply disruptions in key components such as System-on-chip (SoC).
