[서화목] The number of applicants for MBA (MBA) at major U.S. universities has increased

The number of applicants for MBA (MBA) at major U.S. universities, which has fallen for the past five consecutive years, has increased significantly this fall.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) analyzed on the 29th (local time) that it is due to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

The WSJ reported that major universities, which had recently been struggling with a sharp drop in applicants, have drawn the attention of applicants by extending the recruitment period in the Korona 19 situation and raising and lowering the threshold by omitting some screening procedures.

Most of all, it is analyzed that applicants have a lot of time due to the Korona 19 incident, and they have detected an opportunity to raise their ransom, expecting the economy to ease after the end of the situation.

Those who did not feel the need to acquire MBA due to the unprecedented economic boom before Corona 19 changed their minds. This is because MBA acquisition opportunity costs are advantageous in times of economic recession such as the Korona 19.

According to the WSJ, the number of applicants from major universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Business and the University of Pennsylvania Watson School has surged. Watson School had less than 6,000 applicants last year, but this year it exceeded 7,000.

Until April, there were not many applicants at Georgetown University's MacDow Business School. "We extended the deadline from April to July, and since then, the number of applicants has soared," said Shelley Heinrich, dean of the university. "Applicants who have been laid off or have shrunk to the economic crisis have flocked to create a next opportunity.

Despite the surge, however, the number of foreign students studying abroad has decreased significantly due to measures such as border blockade.

The University of Pennsylvania's Watson School and UC Berkeley Haas Business School confirmed that the number of applicants for foreign students has decreased.
