[서화목] nearly 100,000 absentee ballots have been sent in New York City
It has been confirmed that nearly 100,000 absentee ballots have been sent in New York City, the U.S. As President Donald Trump is claiming to be a "fraud" on postal voting, such a mis-delivery is expected to raise controversy over postal voting.
The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 30th (local time) that nearly 100,000 New York City voters had received the wrong absentee ballots. The NYT said, "With millions of postal votes expected due to the Corona Pandemic (global pandemic), this defect could raise doubts about the city's ability to manage elections."
Misprinted types include those who live in the actual address and others whose names are different from those printed on the ballot, or those stamped on the return envelope are different from those delivered. It is said that there are cases in which absentee ballots received by ordinary citizens are written "for soldiers."
The NEC explained that mistakes occurred while subcontractors were printing first edition. New York Mayor Bill Doubledrazio called it a "terrible mistake" to misprint absentee ballots. The misprinted absentee ballots were reportedly sent to Brooklyn, New York City.
New York City's annual absentee turnout was around 4%, but in the wake of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), the absentee turnout in the primary surged to 40 percent in June. At that time, tens of thousands of absentee ballots were reportedly found in Brooklyn alone, which were invalidated during the inspection process due to lack of postmark or signature.
Critics point out that the mis-delivery of absentee ballots will have a negative impact on the overall election rather than just a mistake. This is because President Trump is strongly expressing negative perceptions about postal voting. He once said postal voting could be used for fraudulent elections, calling it "a fraud and a shame."
